Vacuoles
A major part of the endomembrane system, vacuoles are responsible in the general maintenance of the cell. Only found in plants, the Large Central Vacuole stores everything but the kitchen sink. That includes waste products, organic compounds, inorganic ions, metabolic byproducts, lytic enzymes, pigments, and water. Food Vacuoles found in primitive animals use endocytosis to ingest food. They will join with lysosomes so that the food can be digested. Found in fresh water protists, Contractile Vacuoles help the cell maintain pH equilibrium by removing excess water from the cell.
